Tips to Save Water
- Don’t keep the water running while brushing your teeth, washing the dishes or soaping up in the shower.
- Take shorter showers and install a water-saving shower head.
- Fix the drip. A dripping faucet can waste 20 gallons of water per day!
- Save a flush. Is it’s yellow, let it mellow. If it’s brown flush it down.
- Fill a plastic bottle with water and place it in your toilet tank. It will take up the same space as the water usually does, and in one year it will keep 5,000 gallons of water from going down the drain.
- When you turn on the shower, use a container to collect the cold water that comes out first and use it to water your plants.
- Use a rain barrel to collect rain water.
Green Food Tips (and we don’t mean mold!)
- Buy locally grown and/or grow your own food. (While waiting for your shower water to warm up, collect the cold water in a container and use it to feed your homegrown veggies!)
- Bring your own bags to the store.
- Buy food in bulk, not individual servings. Not only will this reduce packaging waste, but many plastic packages contain harmful chemicals.
- Use reusable containers for leftovers and in your lunch bag.
- Cut back on fast food meals. They pollute more than your arteries! If you are having fast food, go inside instead of using the drive-thru.
Energy Saving Tips
- Walk or ride your bike when possible.
- Use cruise control in the car and combine trips/errands.
- Use energy saving light bulbs. Although they cost more, they last much longer than traditional bulbs, so will actually save you money!
- Save electricity. Turn off the lights, appliances and computers when not in use.
- Watch less TV. Exercise, draw, read a book, or play a musical instrument instead. It’s better for your mind and soul too!
- Raise the A/C. Even just a degree or two can save money and power.
Be Gentle and Kind to the Earth
- Plant a tree. Bamboo produces the most oxygen. They love water so try planting one near the air conditioning drain pipe.
- Keep it natural. Avoid processed foods and harmful chemicals and use natural cleaners. It’s better for you and the earth.
